Iranian Association for Philosophy of Religion (IAPR)
Our Mission
Building upon the fact that Iran is a religious country with a large number of religious people and different denominations and also with regard to an ever-increasing attention which is being given to religion the world over, it is quite understandable why religious thought is so ubiquitous among Iranian scholars. For this reason, religious studies is the most important field of study among academic fields. On the other hand, history of the related literature of religious scholarship in west and Iranian thinkers’ dialogue with their western counterparts paved the way for rational analysis of religious ground. This encouraged many university students with theology, Islamic and western philosophy fields to work in their dissertations and theses on one of controversial issues in philosophy of religion. This was because of this that the field of Philosophy of Religion was established by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to cater for the needs of those professors and students who are interested to investigate issues within the scope of philosophy of religion.
Philosophy of religion has garnered great attention among major universities in Iran. Even, polytechnic or technical universities such as Sharif University of Technology and Amirkabir University of Technology are going to establish the field. Some engineering elites chose to continue their major in philosophy of religion. It is quite expected that many books, compiled or translated, have found their way toward publishing press. There are also several periodicals including peer-reviewed journals being published with themes in this regard. It is no exaggeration to say that Philosophy of Religion is one of the most widespread fields of study in this country. Due to this intense inclination, western Christian attitudes, to some extent, dominate the field, however, Iranian-Islamic tradition is competent enough to carry invaluable researches. In some Islamic countries, there is an irrational approach to religious inquiries which persuade them to work on and translate works of Iranian intellectuals. It is worth noting that a number of western religious scholars are interested to travel to Iran and be aware of Localized version of philosophy of religion. In such a situation, it is necessary to shed a new light on Philosophy of Religion and introduce the world with Islamic philosophy of religion.
